Pashupatinath Temple is a Hindu temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, dedicated to Pashupati, an incarnation of Shiva. In 1979, this temple complex was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This "sprawling array of temples, ashrams, statues, and inscriptions constructed throughout the centuries along the banks of the sacred Bagmati river" is one of seven monument groupings in UNESCO's classification of Kathmandu Valley. On the continent, there are 275 Tamil Paadal Petra Sthalams (Holy Abodes of Shiva). This Shivalinga is mentioned in the Shiva Purana as the bestower of all wishes, according to Kotirudra Samhita, Chapter 11 on the Shivalingas of the North.
